My art is a dialogue between the fluid nature of liquid acrylics and the structured beauty of the landscapes that inspire me. I am drawn to the moments where light transforms a scene—the golden glow of an evening in Shigar or the deep shadows beneath an olive tree. The process of working with liquid acrylics allows for a level of spontaneity that mimics nature itself; the paint flows, merges, and settles in ways that are often beyond my absolute control, much like the tide of the ocean or the changing seasons. Through this collection, I seek to capture the ‘inner light’ of the world around us, offering the viewer a sanctuary of color and a moment of quiet reflection. — Shehla Farooq

The artist

Graduated in 1978 with a FINEARTS major. Have been a plain air artist, working in oils on canvas, mostly working with palette knife and brush. My focus has been on Nature, for the past 52 years. Started working in acrylics, inks, resin, and other media ten years back and moving towards abstraction and more modern themes and application. I work in diverse styles and multiple subjects, like landscape, seascape, cityscape with pigeons, skyscapes and florals. Plein air as well as studio practice. I work mostly in Oil Paint with a brush as well as a palette knife. Also in Acrylics and Mixed media, like Ink, pouring medium, alcohol ink, and collage. Have been teaching O Level and A Level Art and Design curriculum for Cambridge University since 1988 in different private schools, and in my studio505 for amateur artists.

How Shehla Farooq works

Liquid Acrylic pour painting requires a table top rather than an easel, and paint is poured onto the canvas in milk jug, spout bottles. With the help of pouring mediums, the paint can be thick or thin according to the requirements of your composition. After years of practice, now I know how to manipulate and maneuver the paint on the canvase as I wish, wheater I want it to blend to make textures or to weep to achieve the required effects. Blower, air brush, heat gun, and some tools i use to move and spread the paint. The painting is done in layers, sometimes wet on wet, sometimes on dry canvas. The painting takes 4 - 10 days to dry up properly (according to the weather).
