“Shamsuddin’s practice reflects a rare synthesis of technical mastery and conceptual clarity. Trained in miniature painting at the National College of Arts, Lahore, he extends the discipline beyond tradition, positioning his work within a broader global art historical dialogue. His compositions bring together visual languages from European classical painting and South Asian miniature traditions. Figures reminiscent of Madonnas, cherubs, and Old Master portraiture coexist with Mughal and Pahari imagery, creating a layered conversation around influence, authorship, and the movement of images across cultures. Executed with precision, his works are distinguished by their controlled surfaces, nuanced tonal shifts, and the strategic use of gold leaf. These elements introduce both material richness and symbolic depth, reinforcing a tension between the historical and the contemporary. Shamsuddin’s paintings offer a compelling balance of discipline and reinvention—appealing to collectors seeking work that is both intellectually grounded and visually refined. Presented by Maestra, his practice reflects the gallery’s focus on artists who engage rigorously with tradition while advancing a contemporary visual language.”
